Volunteer Opportunities

We Have a Place for YouVolunteer-Opportunities

If you have been thinking of volunteering, you have come to the right place.  We have lots of different ways to volunteer to match your time, talents, and experience.  We will work with your schedule and where you live to make volunteering fun and easy!

Volunteers give as much time as they choose to, typically 4 hours a week or so.  Volunteers usually work a regular schedule every week, but some prefer to be available to fill in as needed.

Here are just a few of the ways you can give of yourself:

    • In the home as a companion to patients and their families
    • Work in one of our offices (Sunnyvale, South San Francisco, Oakland)
    • Make bereavement calls to families
    • Assist with fundraising events such as a golf tournament or One From the Heart Breakfast
    • Provide leadership, such as on our Foundation Board of Directors

Training and Support for Volunteers

Pathways provides thorough training for the work you will do, whether at the bedside or volunteering in the office, and we have volunteer support groups as well.  Volunteers in the home with patients must be 18 years or older; office and other volunteers must be at least 15 years old.

Why Volunteer?

Studies show that being a volunteer benefits the mental and physical health of the volunteer!  You may already know that volunteering raises self-esteem, encourages friendships, and can combat depression and isolation.  But recent research has shown a strong impact on physical health: volunteers have lower mortality rates and more functional ability than people who don’t volunteer.  Volunteering may also boost your immune system.

Volunteering is a win-win-win-win! Patients, families, Pathways, and YOU all benefit when you give your time to be a volunteer.
