One from the Heart Awards Breakfast

27TH ANNUAL ONE FROM THE HEART AWARDS BREAKFAST—A RESOUNDING SUCCESS! CHALLENGE GRANT MET AND EXCEEDED!

FLASH UPDATE: We are delighted to report that the substantial Challenge Grant we announced with such trepidation the morning of the Breakfast has been met and exceeded thanks to the generosity and dedication of hundreds of Pathways friends and supporters!

On October 26, 2017, friends and supporters filled the largest ballroom in the Mid-Peninsula to support Pathways’ critical programs and recognize outstanding leaders in hospice and health care. Their generous donations help ensure that Pathways can continue to provide state-of-the-art, person- and-family-centered hospice and home health care for our community.

Our featured speaker, Dr. Abraham Verghese, touched every heart in the room with his story of how Pathways hospice care made a difference for someone close to him. His vision of what the doctor-patient relationship should be like, and the path that led him to this belief, inspired and uplifted everyone in the audience.

Once again hundreds of friends and supporters filled the largest ballroom in the Mid-Peninsula for Pathways’ signature fundraising event, which annually honors those who have made an enduring contribution to hospice and health care.

Every year Pathways honors community members who have made a significant contribution to healthcare or philanthropy. This year’s Leadership in Healthcare Award was presented to Los Altos resident, Diana Randolph Russell, MSN, RN, past Chief Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing Officer at El Camino Hospital. For over 15 years, Russell has provided invaluable guidance to the Pathways Home Health & Hospice Board.

With great trepidation, Event Co-Chair Mari Chazen and her daughter Annie announced an $80,000 One from the Heart Challenge Grant for 2017. We are delighted that this substantial Challenge Grant was met and exceeded thanks to the generosity and dedication of hundreds of Pathways friends and supporters!

This year’s featured speaker, Stanford University Professor of Medicine Dr. Abraham Verghese, internationally and critically acclaimed author, began his talk with the story of how Pathways hospice care made a difference for someone close to him. Ever a prominent and refreshing voice in the discussion around quality medical care, Dr. Verghese presented his unique view of the future of health care and what the doctor-patient relationship should be like. He recounted interactions with patients over the decades of his practice that led him to realize that what patients often want and need most is healing, even when a cure is not possible.

A book signing followed the breakfast.

Over the past twenty-seven years, the One from the Heart Awards Breakfasts have raised more than $6.2 million to ensure extraordinary hospice and home health care for the Bay Area.
