One from the Heart Awards Breakfast
October 26 @ 7:30 am - 9:30 am
Be a part of Pathways’ compassionate and caring mission. This inspirational breakfast has become a “must attend” for over 600 supporters of Pathways, as well as for corporate and community leaders, and medical professionals. One from the Heart annually honors individuals and organizations that have made an enduring contribution to hospice and health care.
This year’s featured speaker is Stanford University Professor of Medicine Dr. Abraham Verghese, an internationally and critically acclaimed author. He is a prominent and refreshing voice in the discussion to define quality medical care and presents a unique view of the future of health care. He envisions a marriage of technological innovation and the traditional doctor-patient relationship. Verghese is committed to listening to his patients’ stories and providing what they want most—healing if not curing. He believes that “the most important innovation in medicine in the next 10 years” will be “the power of the human hand.”
An award winner for both fiction and non-fiction works, Verghese’s bestsellers include Cutting for Stone, My Own Country, and The Tennis Partner. His highly anticipated novel, The Maramon Convention, set in India during the transition from British rule, will be published this year. His work has also appeared in The New Yorker, Sports Illustrated, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, and The New England Journal of Medicine. A member of the National Academy of Sciences, Verghese is a recipient of the coveted National Humanities Medal.
Over the past twenty-seven years, the One from the Heart Awards Breakfasts have raised more than $5.8 million to ensure extraordinary hospice and home health care for the Bay Area.
If you only attend one event this fall, it should definitely be One from the Heart!
