Pathways Volunteer Program - Frequently Asked Questions

Pathways Volunteer Sherry RaynerWhat does a Pathways volunteer do?

Pathways volunteers have a host of possibilities from which to choose. Some of the ways to help include:

  • Visiting patients at home as a companion or to give a caregiver a break.
  • Providing office assistance to support administrative functions.
  • Making telephone outreach calls or home visits to grieving families.
  • Assisting with community and fundraising events.
  • Training as a Community Education volunteer to provide information about Pathways in the community.

What training will be provided?

Pathways offers training courses throughout the Bay Area to prepare volunteers with the skills needed to work with patients and their families. After training, family support volunteers are matched to patients in their community. Volunteers who choose administrative or other support functions also receive on-the-job-training.

Are there volunteer opportunities other than working with patients?

Yes. Some of the ways are:

  • Providing office assistance to support administrative functions.
  • Making telephone outreach calls to grieving families.
  • Assisting with fundraising events and special events.
  • Training as a Community Education volunteer to provide information about Pathways in the community.
