One from the Heart Awards Breakfast
Friday, October 10, 2008

The 18th annual One from the Heart Awards Breakfast will be held on October 10, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Cabaña Hotel in Palo Alto. One from the Heart is an inspiring event that celebrates life and hope. Throughout the years, this signature event has raised more than $2,500,000 for the benefit of the hospice and home health patients served by Pathways.

This year an audience of Pathways friends and families, corporate leaders, and medical professionals, will celebrate the 2008 awardees and welcome featured speaker Steve Ford, son of Gerald and Betty Ford.

Mr. Ford, an actor, motivational speaker and hospice supporter, will give the audience an insider’s view of life in the public eye, featuring many historic and unpublished photos and slides. The Ford family’s success was attributed to character, integrity and strong bonds. Steve will share insights gained when he and those dearest to him supported Gerald Ford and each other during the final months of the late president’s life.

Jazz in June
June 2, 2006

On June 2, 2006, San Francisco ’s World Trade Club took on a unique and glamorous ambiance reminiscent of the swanky supper clubs of the 1940s. This fun-filled evening featured swinging jazz and a candlelit atmosphere - all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the San Francisco Bay Bridge. Special guest of honor and Tony Award-winning actress Carol Channing delighted the guests, filling the room with enough brilliance to illuminate a by-gone era.

Master of Ceremonies Dan Ashley of KGO–TV kept the evening moving and exciting. The sounds of the popular San Francisco swing band “Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers” lifted spirits and set toes to tapping.

Internationally recognized as a Queen of classic Jazz and Blues, Smith has been described by Blues Revue as having “…pure class and a sense of humor…a time machine in vintage threads…” A dance demonstration by Jean Ma and Bromley Palamountain of the dance troupe “Step Step Rock Step” brought the audience to their feet in a standing ovation, and several couples took to the floor to learn the basics of swing dancing.

The evening included an elegant Supper Club reception, featuring fabulous hors d'oeuvres, champagne, cocktails, and chocolate. The raffle of a 4-carat diamond bracelet and a silent auction also helped raise funds for the patients and families served by Pathways Home Health & Hospice as well as Private Duty.
